Jangan Berak Menyangkung Atas Toilet Duduk

Satu fenomena yang aku rasakan agak meluas pasal bangsa aku sendiri.

Dah banyak tempat aku pergi & tengok, kalau tempat banyak Melayu, macam ofis aku sekarang, mesti ada note ala-ala post title hari ni kat jamban.

Paling aku benci adalah, bila nak berak, sekali ada tapak kasut kat atas toilet lid.

Memang potong stim betul la mamat tak reti berak duduk ni!

Eightynine - the legend continues!

As I am writing, there is a subversive lot called "Eightynine" commissioned to organised a gathering of Starians in July 2009.
You'll be seeing a lot of this logo this year!

Dulu diorang ganas - baling locker dari first floor ke tanah, bakar tilam tengah2 malam just for fun.

Their antics of duplicating the key to the school van and driving around the school field at night without ever being discovered by any warden is legendary to this day.

Life was good in 1989 and they ruled STAR for a year.

Hebat daulat diorang ni sampaikan the juniors tak berani nak stare everytime Wazir Bob punished them to squat along classroom corridors.

Siapa berani potong 'train' Form Five kat corridor dari class ke dining hall masa tea or supper? Ada satu minah matriks girl pernah cuba potong train and tergolek jatuh longkang depan almost the whole school polulation. Semua orang gelak lama2 sebab Form Five suka hati.

But now, 20 years later, if you join one of their meetings to organise the Old By Weekend '09 you will not believe that these lame-looking mid-30s were ever rowdy and able to strike fear in anyone's heart!

Almost everyone dons a slight pouch of prosperity where their six-pack muscles used to be. Their stylish hair styles are now replaced by greying hair covering a slight baldpatch. Takde dah cerita pasal 'wallop', 'jambu/jebong' or 'siapa Tamil' (okay, yg last tu masih dibincangkan setiap kali diorang jumpa).

Mana nak cari duit untuk OBW pun tak sesenang collect duit dari budak junior tiap2 house, or bawak camera takde film, amik gambar kelas tiap2 budak junior, n collect sorang 50 sen tanpa perlu rasa guilty.

Tapi they'll work it out eventually. They always do.

Kalau tak percaya betapa lainnya rupa semua orang sekarang, tengok lah photos from one of their meetings:

Angoh, Rogoul, Yayo, Poi, Kambing, Juwie, Tot in deep concentration.

Seperti biasa, semua orang tengah gelakkan Peja.

Stone dengan gaya Ultraman Taro a.k.a beruk.

Mama Juwie, Mat Chap, Kambing, Tot & Agok

Stone & aku - masih rock walau rambut dah tak panjang!!!

Eventho semua physically dah berubah, konsep gameplan for all of them remains the same :

'Kemon STAH, Takde sakit dalam padang a.k.a koyak kangkang!"

Nostalgia Lama - Jubilee Park Ipoh

It's Wednesday.

20 years ago today, aku akan tak sabar nak tunggu Jumaat. Simply because aku akan balik ke STAR naik bas dari Kerteh Jumaat malam & sampai Ipoh Sabtu pagi.
Apa yang nak diseronokkan sangat balik ke hostel, korang pikir?

Haaaa.... bila sampai Ipoh hari Sabtu, malam tu officialnya belum hari sekolah. Orang lain balik Hari Ahad. Maknanya, malam Sabtu tu, malam bebas untuk the few yang balik sekolah awal.

Apalagi, round town lah activity utamanya!
Contrary to popular belief, Ipoh sekitar tahun 1988-89 sebenarnya best.

Dengan berpakaian biasa, kami naik bas dari Taman Cempaka (tapi sebab baru balik dari kg, duit bnyk lagi, selalunya naik teksi), sampai town (masa tu bandar Ipoh, belum bandaraya) lepak Super Kinta or Yik Foong Complex.

Peminat music rock boley pergi jamming kat Pasar Bulat (studio SYJ) or kat satu studio kat pasar besar Ipoh. alang-alang kat Pasar Bulat, usha sekali accessories untuk seorang Mat Rock - buckle besi, studs utk tali pinggang, t-shirt band rock & saputangan 'key'.

Lepas tu pergilah tengok wayang or makan2 kat taman permainan kanak-kanak.

Apa2 pun, last2 sekali, semua orang akan menuju ke satu tempat wajib bila dah puas merayau: JUBILEE PARK. Mother of all entertainment di Ipoh untuk budak2 sekolah macam kami.

Jubilee Park Ipoh -siang tutup, malam happening abis!

Macam2 jenis entertainment ada kat situ. Judi baling dart, baling tin, gelung, mesin capai rokok (alah, yg ada tangan mechanical that you move around to pick stuff - cuma kat Jubilee Park, hadiah dia rokok, bukan teddy bear kecik!) & segala bentuk hiburan ala funfair lah. Mesin ting-tong (video games) pun bnyk, meja snooker pun ada.

Kalau lupa diri, semalaman boley habis duit belanja sebulan!

Di perimeter yang sama, ada pulak satu panggung wayang yang amat famous dengan STARIANS - Panggung wayang GRAND. Grand amat famous sebab tunjuk film 18sx. Of course, subject matternya amatlah mild kalau dibandingkan dgn definition of 18sx sekarang.

So itulah sebab musababnya kenapa Jubilee Park amat famous di kalangan budak2 STAR in the 80's dulu.

And I fondly remember all those Saturday nights sebelum actual school started.

Saladin bags another award

“People are used to products from Europe and the United States but not from this part of the world. This makes Saladin unique” Mahmoud Bouneb, Executive General Manager of AL Jazeera Children’s Channel

BUKIT JALIL: The five-minute trailer for the animated series Saladin has won another international award.

The action-adventure cartoon beat more than 2,000 entries to bag a special Encouragement Award at the Digicon 6 competition in Tokyo last November.

The award is aimed at encouraging and nurturing state-of-the-art creativity for works-in-progress or completed animated works.

Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), the initiator of the made-in-Malaysia action-adventure series, announced the winning of the award last week. MDeC is caretaker of the country’s MSC Malaysia initiative.

The other awards that Saladin won, prior to Digicon 6, are the Best Technology Award at the Seoul International Cartoon and Animation Festival (2006) and the Tokyo Big Sight Award at the Tokyo International Anime Fair (2008).

Saladin was shortlisted from 2,248 entries from Japan , China , Hong Kong , Korea , Singapore , India , Taiwan , Thailand , Jordan and Malaysia at Digicon 6. The entries were judged based on creativity and originality.

Yes, we can

Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, MDeC chief executive officer, said that winning the award was an indication that the Saladin project and its talents have the technical know-how to produce animation to compete with the world’s best.

“Within the Asian region, everyone talks about spectacular animation graphics from South Korea , Japan , Thailand and the Philippines . At this Digicon 6 competition, we have proven that Malaysia has the potential to match their quality standards,” he said.

Digicon 6 is an annual event organised by Tokyo Broadcasting System Inc.

Saladin (www.saladin.tv) is currently in production stages and is scheduled to be shown on the Al Jazeera Children’s Channel by the first quarter of next year.

Production started in May 2004 and a six-minute trailer was previewed during the Multimedia Super Corridor’s 10th Anniversary celebration in April 2005.

Saladin, is a co-production project by MDeC and Al Jazeera Children’s Channel.

Mahmoud Bouneb, executive general manager of Al Jazeera Children’s Channel said: “People are used to products from Europe and the United States but not from this part of the world. This makes Saladin unique.”

According to MDeC, the budget for two seasons of Saladin is RM30mil and to date, about 30% of the amount has been spent.

Saladin is about a 12th century adventurer and statesman from the Middle East .

Komen gua:

Wah, baguslah menang award lagi.Tapi....

... Dah 5 tahun production on-going, balik2 yang depa hantar masuk competition asyik la that 5-minute trailer of Saladin!!

Duit dah habis 9 million so far, tapi mana hasilnya? Brapa episodes dah siap brader?

Last year cakap this year akan disiarkan. Kalau baca article kat atas ni, tahun depan pulak katanya.

Baik la kerajaan support studio2 kecik/sederhana yang ada potential untuk buat breakthrough (what they did for Les Copaque is a good example) dari buang duit sampai RM30 mil untuk this one project yang tak siap2.

Kalau ini project buat rumah, harus dah lama TV3 buat coverage sebab apa tak siap2 lagi.

Lagi satu, abis puluh2 juta ringgit, keluar Al-Jazeera je? Kata buat untuk international market, tapi kenapa aku rasa macam show ni hanya dapat tangkap market muslim nations je?

Kenapa tak study content betul2 supaya the Western countries will be more receptive towards Saladin? Ni episode 1 lagi dah jelas nak tunjuk confrontation antara Islam & Christian. Mana maunya mat saleh support kalau diorang jadi antagonist. Depa ni pun satu celaka gak.

Ntah lah, gasak korang la. Gua pikir pun tak guna.

Lain la kalau gua dapat government grant bikin animation feature!!
